About the author

Born in Maxmo on March 21, 1848, Gustaf von Numers was a Swedish-speaking Finnish author who also worked for the state railways. He later served as a station inspector, including posts in Bennäs and Kannus, and died in Kannus on February 6, 1913.

His writing life gained momentum after he became acquainted with the theater figure Kaarlo Bergbom in 1887. Bergbom helped bring several of von Numers's plays to the Finnish stage, beginning with Erik Puke in 1888.

Von Numers wrote in Swedish, but his plays were often performed in Finnish, helping his work travel beyond its original language. He is remembered especially as a dramatist whose career linked everyday railway life with a lasting contribution to Finnish theater.
