About the author

Born in Oyster Bay, New York, in 1872, David Magie Cory became a popular American writer for children. He wrote more than fifty books, often filled with playful animal characters, gentle humor, and an easy storytelling style that made them natural read-aloud favorites.

He is especially remembered for his Little Jack Rabbit tales, which were syndicated in newspapers for about forty years. Cory also wrote other series and stories for young readers, including books featuring Puss in Boots, Jr., Billy Bunny, and Little Indian characters.

Before turning seriously to writing, he spent many years working as a stockbroker. Library sources also note that he was involved in early radio broadcasting, adding another chapter to a career that mixed business, publishing, and new media. He died in 1966.
