About the author

Born David Magie Cory on October 26, 1872, in Oyster Bay, New York, he went on to build a long career as a writer for children. He is remembered for producing more than fifty books, often filled with cheerful animal characters and playful adventures.

Cory became especially famous for his Little Jack Rabbit stories, which were syndicated in newspapers for around forty years. That long run helped make his work familiar to generations of young readers, at a time when children's stories often arrived not just in books but in daily papers.

He died on July 4, 1966. Today, his work remains part of the early 20th-century tradition of American children's literature, with many of his stories still preserved in public-domain collections and audiobook libraries.
