YOUNG OLIVER: OR THE Thoughtless Boy.
YOUNG OLIVER.
TWO WAYS OF ATTAINING WISDOM.
In a quiet countryside, a modest family tends a small farm, their lives marked by diligent work and community respect. When a powerful squire’s relentless hunting and predatory claims drain their livelihood, the parents are forced to sell the farm for a fraction of its value, and tragedy soon follows—a lost daughter, a grieving widow, and a father reduced to opening a struggling shop. With the meager remaining funds, the old man sends his son, Oliver, to an apprenticeship as a joiner, hoping the trade will offer a steadier future.
Oliver proves a quick learner, mastering his craft while resisting the careless allure of his fellow apprentices’ tavern haunts. As his term ends, he dreams of establishing his own workshop, but lacks the capital to turn ambition into reality. A local merchant, impressed by Oliver’s skill and quiet generosity, offers a modest loan, setting the young man on the cusp of independence and the hard choices that accompany it.

Some of the world’s most enduring books come from writers whose names were never recorded or never revealed. “Anonymous” on a title page can mean many different things: a lost identity, a deliberate choice, or a work shaped by tradition over time.
