A weary convoy of families steps off a cramped starship onto a sun‑drenched world that seems torn from a forgotten Eden. Ruth and her pragmatic husband Harvey stare at endless orchards, towering fruit trees and pastel villages, hoping the promise of a new beginning will finally outweigh the blight that ruined Earth. Their excitement is tempered by the memory of false miracles, and they cling to each other as they load their belongings onto a red cart, surrounded by a colorful patchwork of fellow settlers.
The newcomers are quickly ushered into a modest reception hall where a booming colonial officer’s voice promises order and purpose. As they file past green doors and settle onto rough wooden benches, the sheer foreignness of the landscape fuels both awe and nervous speculation. The story follows their first steps into this strange, fertile frontier, exploring how hope, distrust, and the need to adapt shape the fragile birth of a new community.
