Description

Dick Barrow drifts through a bleak cityscape, his pockets empty and his prospects dim, when a cryptic newspaper ad promises a lifetime of work for a lone engineer willing to abandon everything. The promise of “great opportunity” and the chance to master massive machines pull him toward the shabby address on Morgan Avenue, where a handful of equally desperate men linger on a splintered bench.

Inside a cramped, dimly lit room, Dick meets an unsettling recruiter—tall‑eyed and oddly proportioned—who offers a path far beyond ordinary labor. The interview is terse, the terms stark: leave Earth, never return, and face isolation among an advanced civilization that dwarfs any human achievement. Yet the allure of unknown technology and the hope of purpose ignite a spark in Dick’s weary heart.

With his modest training and a fierce need to survive, Dick steps through the doorway, ready to test his skill against strange machines and even stranger lands. The journey will demand courage, ingenuity, and a willingness to confront the unknown.
