Description

A fierce winter storm lashes the Black Forest in 1516, turning the night into a chorus of thunder, lightning, and the mournful howl of wolves. In a solitary cottage, an elderly shepherd mourns the sudden disappearance of his beloved sixteen‑year‑old granddaughter, Agnes, whose absence haunts every corner of his life. As the tempest roars, a mysterious, disheveled stranger seeks refuge, his haunted eyes hinting at a darkness far deeper than the weather outside.

The stranger’s arrival unsettles the old man, who instinctively reaches for his crucifix, only to be met with a chilling, authoritative gesture that suggests the visitor is no ordinary traveler. Their uneasy meeting sets the stage for a tale of superstition, hidden fears, and the ancient folklore that looms over the forest. Listeners will be drawn into a world where the line between myth and reality blurs, and the true nature of the “Wehr‑Wolf” begins to emerge.

About the author

George W. M. (George William MacArthur) Reynolds

1814–1879

A hugely popular Victorian writer, he drew readers in with sprawling serial stories full of secrets, scandal, and life on London’s streets. His work once rivaled Dickens in reach, and it still offers a vivid window into 19th-century popular fiction.
