Description

A silent, black‑painted bridge arches over a cold river, its lanterns casting a dim, greenish glow on the cobblestones below. People cross it without seeing one another, all heading toward the empty, winding alley of the old city’s forgotten quarter, where a solitary, forbidding house stands with its half‑round, blackened door forever shut. Beside the house, a narrow shop is tucked into the wall, its rusted bell trembling each time the door opens.

Inside, the air is heavy with smoke and the scent of strange, sour‑sweet herbs. A clock on the wall bears two grotesque hands—one a skull, the other a beating heart—marking an uneasy dance of life and death. The shopkeeper, an ageless figure with a blank stare, serves each customer a singular bargain, his voice never answering the names they call him. Shelves overflow with colorful jars and chipped pottery, each bearing faded red labels that hint at hidden properties.

Patrons arrive from all walks of life—bankers, monarchs, artists, even trembling schoolchildren—each hoping to purchase something the world no longer offers: a fragment of joy, a sliver of relief, a glimpse of what lies beyond ordinary desire. The shop’s quiet transactions begin a chain of uneasy exchanges that will ripple through the street’s forgotten shadows.
