Description

In the waning light of a September afternoon, the ancient stone walls of Trevethlan Castle stare out over the restless Cornish sea, their gloom amplified by faded tapestries and a fire that barely lifts the chill. At the heart of this solemn chamber, the family patriarch lies dying, his breath measured by an hour‑glass and his thoughts turned inward as he summons his children. The somber atmosphere is broken only by the quiet footsteps of his daughter and the strained resolve of his son, Randolph, who listens as his father issues a cryptic curse and a desperate plea for the family’s honor.

Randolph is left to grapple with the weight of legacy, the allure of a mercantile patron, and the stark choices between poverty, pride, and a possible return to former greatness. The dying man’s warnings hint at hidden loyalties, a peasant bloodline, and a looming rivalry with the ambitious Pendarrel family. As the castle’s shadows lengthen, the young heir must decide whether to cling to old traditions or forge a new path that could either restore or ruin the Trevethlan name.
