Description

This volume brings together a vivid assortment of Native American oral traditions, gathered and refreshed for a modern ear. The stories were first compiled in the early nineteenth century and now appear in a carefully revised edition that respects the cadence of the original tellers. Listeners will hear the pulse of tribal myth as it moves from the whisper of the forest to the roar of the plains.

In the opening tale, a haunting chant summons the spirits of a mist‑shrouded lake where wolves, serpents and grieving lovers linger on its still waters. The narrative weaves warnings of unseen danger with a tender undercurrent of love and loss, setting the tone for sections on the King of the Elks, the Daughters of the Sun, and other vivid legends. Each story is presented in a lyrical, almost musical prose that invites listeners to linger on the rhythm of ancient voices.
