Description

In the quiet, leafy enclave of Cathcart Square, a lone “To Let” sign hangs above a grand but empty house, its rooms still echoing with the presence of a long‑absent owner. Constable Brown, a diligent yet modest beat policeman, notices a broken scullery window and suspects that someone has entered the vacant dwelling for reasons beyond simple theft. His careful eye and methodical nature drive him to call a colleague, and together they begin a meticulous search of the house’s shadowy corridors and forgotten basement.

The investigation quickly reveals more than a simple burglary. The caretaker, an elderly man named Miles, is known for his fondness for drink and a habit of discouraging prospective tenants with tales of damp, ghosts, and beetles. As Brown and his partner probe deeper, they uncover subtle clues that hint at hidden motives and secrets lurking within the polished walls. The mystery unfolds against the backdrop of post‑war London, inviting listeners to follow the detectives as they piece together what—or who—might be haunting the empty residence.
