Description

In the bustling border town of Semlin, a blue‑shaded “Löwen‑Apotheke” stands out against its grim neighbours, its golden lettering and tiny crowned lion hinting at quiet respectability. Inside lives the widower Istvan Czabo, his modest pharmacy, and his daughter Netti, who has blossomed into a beautiful, sought‑after maiden. The town’s most promising lawyer, Ferenz, has won Netti’s heart, and the pharmacist gladly blesses the match, hoping it will secure his family’s future. Yet their plans are forced into anxious waiting as the aftermath of the Hungarian revolt hangs over the city like a storm cloud.

Beyond the pharmacy doors, the suppressed Hungarian uprising casts a long shadow, with Austrian and Russian forces crushing the dream of liberty and hunting down anyone linked to the rebellion. Among those targeted is the aristocratic Countess Thekla Andrasy, a wealthy woman whose name appears in whispered conspiracies. As friends and neighbours grapple with loyalty, fear, and the lure of daring sacrifice, the young lovers must decide whether to protect their quiet lives or risk everything for a cause that may never be won.
