Description

By the banks of the Orange River, where the Yellow meets its sister, a camp of laughing youths gathers beneath a stand of weeping willows. The silver‑fringed trees, rare in the arid kraal country, turn the riverbank into a sanctuary of light and song. Around a crackling fire the six boys—still children in body but already boasting grand ambitions—share stories that echo across the water. Their mirth, amplified by the night sky, promises a season of daring exploits.

Among them are three familiar faces—Hans, Hendrik and Jan—once the notorious “Bush‑boys” who have grown into young men with college laurels, a military cap, and restless energy. The other trio are the Van Wyks, sons of the region’s wealthiest grazer, Diedrik Van Wyk, whose massive herd and close friendship with the Bloom family bind the groups together. Their shared heritage and rivalry set the stage for bold hunts, secret challenges, and the restless quest to prove themselves in the wild African landscape.
