Description

In the restless summer of 1861, three discharged cavalrymen gather at Fort Wise, weighing the pull of civilian life against the lure of the open prairie. Their leader, Tom Vance, sketches an ambitious scheme: spend the harsh winter on the buffalo plains, hunting wolves that feast on poisoned carcasses, and turn the venture into a profitable enterprise. The plan promises both freedom and danger, hinting at the rugged logistics of assembling a wagon, a handful of men, and a trove of supplies before the first snow settles.

As the trio sets out, the narrative paints a vivid portrait of the frontier—blistering heat giving way to looming storms, and the uneasy silence of Native tribes watching the newcomers’ movements. Early encounters with doubtful characters and the ever‑present threat of the wolves themselves create a tense, kinetic start, while the camaraderie and seasoned grit of the ex‑soldiers keep the story grounded. Listeners are invited to feel the bite of winter wind, the crack of gunfire, and the stark beauty of the buffalo range as these men test the limits of ambition and survival.
