The Tracy diamonds

A sweltering July morning blankets the Prospect House, a former church turned public office, in a haze of heat and idle sparrows. Uncle Zach Taylor, the proprietor, oversees a frantic cleaning effort, his eyes flicking between a thermometer and the eclectic collection of portraits that line the hall—among them a vivid depiction of the Boston Tea Party and a stern ancestor of his wife. The atmosphere hums with the clatter of brooms, the scent of soap, and the low murmur of guests seeking refuge from the oppressive heat.

Amid the bustle, a lively cast of characters gathers: Dot, the indefatigable housekeeper; Craig Mason, a young man with a penchant for Browning; and the enigmatic Tracy family, whose name is whispered in connection with a glittering set of diamonds.
