THE SONS OF KAI
The story opens on a windswept plateau where the Navahos carve homes into the sheer walls of Canyon de Chelly, living beneath a sky that seems brighter than any other. By day they tend peach orchards, beans and corn on terraced gardens; by night the ladders are pulled up, fires flicker in stone hollows, and the tribe gathers for the sacred fire dance that vibrates the earth and calls the Song of Healing. The landscape—canyons, deserts, and soaring mesas—breathes with the rhythm of drums, the swirl of smoke, and the distant howl of coyotes.
Within this cliff village, the silver‑handed silversmith Pesh‑li‑kai raises his beautiful daughter Kai, whose life changes when the mysterious Talking God, Hah‑Tse‑Yalti, appears and asks for her hand. Their union brings twin sons, who grow up under the watchful eyes of war and peace chiefs learning the bow, the arrow, and the legends of their people. Their early years hint at daring quests and strange adventures that will test the gifts and teachings they receive.
