Description

In a snug house on the banks of the Thames, the Avory family lives a quiet, affectionate life. Mother Avory keeps the household running smoothly while her four children—Janet, Robert, Hester, and little Gregory—share a close bond that rarely sees a quarrel. Their home, aptly called “The Gables,” feels both ordinary and full of promise, a perfect backdrop for the everyday wonders that stir in each room.

Each child pursues a unique fascination: Hester devours history and dreams of cataloguing every “Gables” across the country; Robert measures his steps obsessively, mapping the world around him; Gregory collects model engines and imagines soaring like the early aviators; and Janet, the eldest, balances practicality with a caring, mother‑like presence. Their differing interests set the stage for gentle adventures, sibling schemes, and the occasional mischief that will test their bonds.

As the story unfolds, listeners are invited to step into the Avories’ world, feeling the rhythm of their daily routines, the sparkle of youthful curiosity, and the comforting sense that even the simplest family can hold extraordinary dreams.
