Description

A lone rider named Calico pushes his pinto horse along a dusty fork in the sage‑covered plains, his one‑man teepee and supplies marking him as a wandering range‑dweller. The road is littered with the wreckage of a burned wagon and the skeletal remains of two horses, stark reminders of the unforgiving frontier where even the hardiest stock can perish. As he turns toward the hills, the early‑spring air carries the scent of fresh grass fighting to reclaim a landscape scarred by drought and winter loss.

While the horizon beckons with distant towns like Coldriver and the promise of a railroad, Calico’s thoughts drift back to the old Three Bar brand and the youthful adventures of two friends who once chased dreams across the Santa Fe and Colorado trails. Their stories of cattle drives, makeshift forts, and rugged ingenuity echo through his mind, shaping his resolve as he rides toward an uncertain future on the open range.
