Description

In the gentle hills of rural England, a lone lane winds past ivy‑clad walls to a weather‑worn farm called Applecroft. The estate is a picture of fading charm—ancient oaks, blooming orchards, and a garden where wildflowers mingle with neglect. Its owners, the hard‑pressed farmer William Farnish and his two diligent daughters, Jeckie and Rushie, labor tirelessly to keep the place from slipping into ruin, their lives marked by the quiet desperation of poverty and the stubborn hope that nature’s bounty might still offer a reprieve.

Through vivid description the story immerses listeners in the textures of the countryside: the scent of hedge violets, the clatter of drying laundry, the slow, stubborn rhythm of daily survival. As the sisters shoulder increasing responsibilities, subtle tensions surface, hinting at deeper conflicts that will shape their futures. The opening sets a richly layered world where ordinary lives whisper of larger forces waiting to emerge.
