Transcriber's Note:
In a gleaming hundred‑story Lodge that houses both bureaucrats and the uncanny, a young healer named Pheola claims two rare gifts: the ability to glimpse the future and to mend wounds with a touch. She arrives with her steadfast companion, the sardonic Walter Bupp, hoping the organization will recognize and nurture her talents. The atmosphere crackles with nervous anticipation as the Lodge’s senior members, especially the irascible director Maragon, put her powers to the test.
Maragon, a veteran of the Lodge’s secretive research, scoffs at prophecy that cannot be timed perfectly and challenges Pheola to prove herself before he throws her out. The exchange quickly becomes a vivid duel of wit, stubborn pride, and a surprising display of the very healing she boasts. As tension mounts, listeners are left wondering whether Pheola’s gifts are genuine, and what price the Lodge will exact for tapping into the unknown.

A major American poet of the 20th century, he is best remembered for the restless, inventive Dream Songs, poems that mix wit, pain, and startling shifts in voice. His work helped define confessional poetry while still feeling formally daring and singular.
