Larry Manahan spends his days hunched over copy desks, dreaming of the excitement he reads about in magazines and sees on the screen. When a trembling voice on the telephone hints that his quiet world might finally shift, he seizes the chance, spurred by the memory of a brief encounter with Agnes Sterling, the assistant to the reclusive Dr. Travis Whiting. With a sudden burst of resolve, Larry ditches his office and storms toward the scientist’s secluded laboratory, hoping to rescue Agnes from whatever danger the eccentric professor has devised.
Inside the dim, dust‑laden house, the hallway leads him to the lab where a fresh pool of blood and a grotesquely twisted revolver lie on the floor. The weapon’s mangled shape suggests a force far beyond ordinary violence, hinting that Whiting’s experiments have reached a startling frontier. As Larry watches the baffling scene unfold, he realizes his yearning for adventure has pulled him into a mystery that may shrink his world to the size of a single atom.
