Description

Murray Lee awakens to find his body replaced with sleek, articulated metal—fingers that move at the speed of thought, ribs of shining plates, and a face that mirrors a polished iron mask. Disoriented, he stumbles through his New York penthouse, noting the eerie silence of the city outside and the absence of his watch, while his mind races to make sense of this impossible transformation. The strange, almost clinical efficiency of his new form hints at a purpose beyond a mere accident, setting the stage for a bewildering encounter with forces far beyond ordinary science.

Beyond his apartment, an alien onslaught from the star Rigel looms, its warships blazing through the heavens and scattering bright rivulets of flame across the globe. As the first wave of extraterrestrial invaders descends, humanity’s fragile defenses are thrust into a desperate scramble for survival. Murray’s unexpected metamorphosis may hold the key to confronting this unprecedented threat, launching listeners into a tense, fast‑moving adventure that mixes hard‑boiled war tactics with speculative wonder.

About the author

Fletcher Pratt

Fletcher Pratt

1897–1956

A lively man of letters who moved easily between military history and imaginative fiction, he wrote with equal energy about naval warfare, the American Civil War, and fantastical adventures. He is still especially remembered for his collaborations with L. Sprague de Camp and for the breadth of his curiosity.
