Description

The Nibelungenlied stands as the great German national epic, a work whose dramatic power and poetic skill have earned it a place among the world’s classic epics. Set in the glittering courts and rugged castles of the twelfth‑century Holy Roman Empire, it follows a cast of vividly drawn heroes and lovers whose ambitions echo the timeless struggles of honor, loyalty and fate. Though rooted in medieval German culture, the story’s emotions—passionate love, fierce rivalry, looming tragedy—feel remarkably familiar to any listener.

The tale opens with the legendary knight Siegfried, a fur‑bodied hero fresh from slaying a fearsome dragon and claiming invincible armor. He arrives at the Burgundian court, where he is welcomed by the noble king and soon courted by the beautiful Kriemhild, whose marriage promises to unite two powerful houses. Yet beneath the celebrations, jealous rivals such as the cunning Hagen begin to plot, setting in motion a chain of betrayal and bloodshed that will test the limits of kinship and vengeance.
