Description

A seasoned architect, haunted by the restless ambition that once drove him to build soaring towers, now faces the quiet doubts of age. When a charismatic young woman arrives, she awakens memories of dreams he once dared to imagine, and his confidence begins to wobble under her probing gaze. The drama explores how the desire for greatness can clash with the fragile longing for love and acceptance.

Set against the stark backdrop of a small Norwegian town, the play weaves together the tension between personal aspiration and the inevitable passage of time. As old friendships surface and secret ambitions stir, the audience is drawn into a psychological duel where pride, fear, and yearning intersect. Ibsen’s sharp dialogue and vivid character study invite listeners to contemplate the cost of building both structures and legacies.

About the author

Henrik Ibsen

Henrik Ibsen

1828–1906

One of the great dramatists of the 19th century, this Norwegian writer helped reshape theater with plays that brought ordinary lives, moral conflict, and social pressure to the center of the stage. His work still feels strikingly modern, especially in classics like A Doll’s House, Ghosts, and Hedda Gabler.
