Description

On a quiet summer morning in the early 1800s, two rugged Forfarshire fishermen push off from the shore, their oars cutting through glassy water toward the infamous Bell Rock. The sea seems calm, but the recent storm has left hidden swells, and the rock—still unmarked—has long been a deathtrap for ships entering the Firths of Forth and Tay. Their banter, thick with dialect, hints at both the camaraderie and the foreboding that the day's journey may reveal.

The novel follows the lives tangled around that looming stone, from the press‑gang that drags a reluctant youth into the navy, to Ruby, a spirited woman whose fortunes rise and fall amid smuggling, intrigue, and the relentless push to erect a beacon on the rock. Storms batter the crew, accidents test their resolve, and secrets surface as the lighthouse project becomes a crucible for love, betrayal, and unexpected alliances. Readers are drawn into a sweeping maritime adventure where every surge of the tide brings new danger and the promise of redemption.
