The Life and Adventures of Poor Puss

Poor Puss begins life as a mischievous farm kitten, sneaking cream from the dairy, stealing food, and tormenting the old dog Keeper. Her playful boldness soon leads to real dangers: a painful encounter with a rat, a leg caught in a trap, and the hard lessons of learning to hunt and fend for herself.

As she grows into a capable cat, Puss faces the loss of her kittens, fleeing hounds, and cruel boys who chase her through the fields. Her adventures are told with humor and sympathy, presenting the world from the viewpoint of a spirited animal whose courage and cleverness are repeatedly tested. When the boys prepare a particularly frightening prank, help arrives just in time, promising another turn in Puss’s eventful life. This gentle, lively tale will appeal to listeners who enjoy animal stories, childhood adventures, and old-fashioned lessons about kindness and compassion.
