Description

In the waning days of the Civil War, the battered hills of North Carolina echo with the sounds of marching troops and the whispered hope of a defeated South. A young Confederate officer returns home, his mind still haunted by battlefield glory yet stirred by a daring ambition to rebuild a shattered world. The landscape is a mixture of ruin and resilient green, where the scars of surrender linger in every empty homestead.

Against this backdrop, a cast of vivid characters emerges: a genteel Southern daughter who clings to the old ways, a one‑legged veteran determined to protect his family, and a charismatic Reconstruction leader whose vision of progress threatens to upend tradition. Their lives intersect amid the rise of new political forces, the uneasy presence of former slaves, and the lingering shadow of secret societies. Tension crackles as loyalties are tested and the promise of a new era beckons.

The story unfolds as personal dreams collide with the harsh realities of a region forced to redefine itself. Listeners will feel the weight of history pressing on each choice, while the murmurs of hope and loss weave a compelling portrait of a society in transition.
