Description

A brisk March morning finds the bustling offices of a New York law firm tangled in a storm of snow, sleet, and unexpected news. A junior clerk bursts in with a headline that shatters the routine: Frances Holladay has been arrested for the cold‑blooded murder of her own father. The senior partner, Graham, sees the case hinge on the testimony of Rogers, the victim’s confidential assistant, and he rallies his team for a desperate defense.

As Lester steps into the fray, he discovers a web of conflicting motives, half‑heard whispers, and a city that seems to conspire against a young woman’s innocence. With limited time before the inquest, the attorneys must sift through frantic papers, interview wary witnesses, and navigate the constraints of a legal system strained by scandal. The early chapters set a tense, methodical puzzle that promises intrigue, courtroom strategy, and the relentless pursuit of truth.
