Description

When an old New York lawyer receives a sudden summons from his long‑standing client, the reclusive art collector Philip Vantine, the atmosphere feels both familiar and unsettling. Vantine, a solitary bachelor who dwells in a crumbling brownstone amid a tide of modern skyscrapers, invites his confidant to discuss a puzzling problem that threatens his prized boules cabinet. Their conversation, filled with witty banter and hints of past adventures, quickly draws the lawyer into a labyrinth of secrets hidden within the mansion's walls.

The solicitor, accustomed to routine lease paperwork and quiet negotiations, soon discovers that the case is far from ordinary—a missing artifact, a mysterious Frenchman, and a series of cryptic notes hint at an old drama resurfacing. As the city’s bustling avenues roar outside, the two men sift through clues that blend art history, family legacy, and a touch of danger. Listeners are invited to accompany them as curiosity turns into a delicate investigation, setting the stage for a classic detective tale.
