A mysterious parcel arrives from China, its contents a pair of delicate, yellow‑streaked pajamas that seem to weigh almost nothing. The narrator, a witty and slightly irascible gentleman, enlists his loyal servant Jenkins to unravel the odd gift, recalling a long‑ago acquaintance who dabbled in the occult and exotic curiosities. Their curiosity quickly turns to unease when the simple act of unwrapping the fabric hints at something far stranger than a mere novelty.
As they begin to examine the pajamas, a series of odd occurrences and whispered rumors swirl around the household, suggesting the cloth may be tied to ancient superstitions and hidden motives. The story balances light‑hearted banter with a creeping sense of the uncanny, drawing listeners into a tale where a seemingly harmless present could hold the key to a larger, mystifying mystery.
