Description

A rain‑slicked London night provides a moody backdrop as a seasoned officer seeks a brief respite in a modest hut on the outskirts of a quiet village street. The wind howls, the city bells toll faintly, and the steady drip of water from overhanging branches creates a rhythm that matches the protagonist’s steady puff on his pipe. In this brief lull, the sergeant shares the odd, almost whimsical calls the police receive—forgotten keys, misplaced hats, and other petty mysteries that pepper his duty.

The conversation soon turns to a more unsettling assignment: the “Red House” on College Road, a seemingly abandoned property that has lain empty for over a year. Constable Bolton, a solid‑hearted but curious colleague, is dispatched to check whether its garage door is locked, an inquiry that hints at something hidden behind the house’s high brick wall. The stage is set for a puzzling investigation that will draw the officer deeper into the secrets lurking behind the silent façade of the Red House.
