Description

In a lively country house where a sunny verandah frames everyday routines, a group of children and servants bustle about while the adults tend to their endless chores. When a sudden crash shatters the calm, a beloved housekeeper collapses near the dining‑room doorway, prompting Lucy and Miss Latimer to rush for help. Their quick thinking reveals a hidden danger: a fire smouldering in the kitchen, threatening to turn the home’s orderly world into chaos.

As the adults scramble to summon the doctor and contain the blaze, Lucy’s sharp eyes catch a half‑emptied bottle of whisky that hints at a deeper secret behind the accident. The young Tom Black, caught between duty and curiosity, begins to piece together the puzzling clues while the household tries to keep the fire at bay and protect the frightened little Hugh. The story balances the tension of a sudden emergency with the gentle humor of a girl’s determination, inviting listeners to imagine the quiet heroism that unfolds in a single, unforgettable afternoon.
