Description

A young governess arrives at a grand London townhouse, summoned by a polite footman and led through elegant corridors to a bustling nursery. The house is alive with the soft clatter of wooden rockers, a bright fire, and the chatter of household staff, while a restless infant refuses to settle. As she unpacks her modest belongings, she dons a nurse’s cap and apron, instantly becoming the newest caretaker in a world of polished brass cribs and well‑worn routines.

The infant’s plaintive “Nur, nur” draws her into a tender exchange, and the seasoned Mrs. Garnett watches approvingly as the child finally relaxes in her arms. Around them, canaries trill, a Persian kitten curls on the rug, and a watchful Skye terrier named Snap patrols the room, adding charm to the domestic scene. Yet beneath the comforting ambience, hints of lingering grief and the pressures of keeping a fussy baby content suggest that the newcomer’s duties will soon test both her patience and her ingenuity.
