Description

A bustling manicure salon on New Bond Street sets the stage for a lively comedy of manners. Sophy Fullgarney runs the tidy shop with sharp wit, dispensing polish and gossip in equal measure as mirrors and business cards frame the scene. The cramped yet elegant space feels like a backstage where society’s fringe gathers, each client an unwitting participant in the day’s drama.

Soon the salon becomes a crossroads for aristocrats and upstarts: a dashing Marquess, a flamboyant duchess, and a sly professional palmist all converge, their ambitions tangled with rumors of a scandalous liaison. As the afternoon slips into evening, witty repartee and flirtatious misunderstandings ripple through the rooms of Fauncey Court, hinting at hidden motives and rivalries that may reshape reputations. The play promises sparkling dialogue and an ever‑shifting social dance, all contained within a single, eventful day.

A leading voice of the late Victorian and Edwardian stage, this English playwright helped move popular theatre from brisk farce toward sharper social drama. His best-known works mix clever construction with a lively feel for manners, scandal, and the pressures of respectable society.
