Description

In the quiet valleys of Beaver Dam, the Starkley clan has lived off the land for generations, their homestead built from hand‑hewn timbers and the stories of an old Malecite ally. Father John and wife Constance raise five children—hard‑working, bright‑eyed youngsters who roam the fields, fish the Frying Pan River and dream of futures beyond the farm’s sturdy walls. The novel paints a vivid portrait of early‑twentieth‑century rural life, where the rhythms of planting, reading and the occasional letter from a distant brother set the backdrop for a close‑knit family.

When a summons arrives, the Starkleys must decide whether to leave their beloved fields and answer a larger duty beyond the farmstead. The young men feel the pull of honor and adventure while the women brace for the changes that war may bring. Their determination and the bonds of kinship become the first test of the courage that will define the family’s legacy.
