Description

In the sweltering summer of Leghorn, a lone English consul finds himself thrust into the chaotic rhythm of a bustling Mediterranean port. When a British steam yacht runs aground on the treacherous reefs of the Meloria, the sudden rescue by torpedo‑boats raises more questions than answers, and the local authorities suspect foul play. Amid the heat‑soaked offices and the clatter of dockside gossip, the consul must juggle diplomatic duties, a half‑lingering mutiny, and the arrival of a mysterious yachtsman named Philip Hornby, whose quiet demeanor hides a secret agenda.

As the consul navigates the tangled web of foreign officials, a steadfast Italian interpreter, and a crew of uneasy sailors, a subtle, wordless attraction begins to surface between two strangers bound by circumstance. Their silent connection becomes a thread woven through a larger mystery that hints at espionage, loyalty, and the hidden costs of duty—all set against the vivid backdrop of 19th‑century Italy.
