The cock, the mouse, and the little red hen : an old tale retold

On a pretty green hill stands a cozy little house shared by a Cock, a Mouse, and a hardworking Little Red Hen. Nearby, a bold fox and his four hungry cubs live in a shabby house, and when their empty stomachs begin to rumble, they set their sights on the cheerful home across the way.

Unfortunately, the Cock and Mouse are in a particularly quarrelsome, unhelpful mood. While the Little Red Hen gathers sticks, fetches water, prepares breakfast, cleans up, and makes the beds, her companions refuse every task with the same stubborn answer: “I shan’t.” Their laziness and bickering leave them distracted just when the fox creeps up the hill with a sack and a hungry plan. Full of rhythmic repetition, lively dialogue, and colorful storybook charm, this classic tale invites young listeners to join in with familiar phrases while wondering whether the careless pair will notice danger at the door.
