In the heart of Paris stands a meticulously kept townhouse on Grange Street, its polished stone floors and gleaming woodwork giving the impression of a miniature palace. Inside, a curious cross‑section of lives coexist: a reclusive baron who visits only occasionally, a broker plying his trade, a second‑hand dealer surrounded by curios, and cramped rooms occupied by poor families and clerks. Though the exterior is immaculate, the building carries a tarnished reputation, largely because of its doorkeeper, Master Chevassat, and his wife, whose whispered dealings and alleged usury have made them the subject of neighborhood gossip.
One rainy Saturday afternoon, the ever‑eager dealer Papa Ravinet bursts into the Chevassats’ modest quarters, breathless with news of an accident upstairs. The sudden urgency pulls the couple into a mystery that threatens to expose hidden debts, secret ambitions, and the enigmatic son they claim exists but no one has ever seen. Listeners are invited to step through the polished doors and discover how the tidy façade masks a tangled web of intrigue and human frailty.
