Description

When a fierce summer storm roils the biggest lake in the region, a tiny yawl is torn apart and left drifting in the night. Inside, a twelve‑year‑old boy is barely clinging to life, bound in a tangled fish‑net and clutching a battered life‑preserver as the waves toss him mercilessly. His unconscious struggle hints at a strange rescue—perhaps even a whale in fresh water—waiting to pull him from the dark water.

Back on solid ground, the lively youngsters of Pete’s Patch gather around Bettie Tucker’s window, where baskets of gifts and odd parcels arrive through the creaky gate. As they sort the mysterious deliveries, they learn about the solitary sailor’s peril and feel compelled to help. Their innocent plan sets the stage for a daring effort, promising friendship, bravery, and the kind of adventure that turns ordinary summer days into unforgettable tales.
