Description

Pocket Upton is a seventeen‑year‑old pupil at a strict boarding school, forever caught between the expectations of his stern housemaster and his own restless curiosity. When a sudden bout of illness threatens to keep him at the infirmary, he cleverly convinces his master that he must return to London that very night, promising to be back if his plans fall through. With the names of two trusted acquaintances—the Knaggs family and Miss Harbottle—scribbled on a scrap of paper, he prepares for a daring, unsanctioned night‑trip.

The journey itself becomes a revelation. Riding the hansom through blooming countryside, Pocket watches the world rush by, his mind buzzing with ideas for the new camera he has secretly acquired. The freedom of the open rail and the promise of capturing fleeting moments ignite a passion that may change the course of his otherwise ordinary school life.
