Description

In the shadowy back‑street of Clerkenwell, the “Punch‑Bowl” tavern hides behind a weather‑worn sign, a refuge for thieves, pickpockets, and the occasional dashing gentleman who slips through its narrow alley like a phantom from a higher world. The tavern’s grim façade masks a surprisingly cosy parlour where the landlady, a sharp‑witted woman with a taste for bright colours, tends to her eclectic clientele, dispensing both gossip and discreet aid—for a price. Her stories of vanished patrons and whispered rumors give the place an air of mystery that draws in the curious and the desperate alike.

Among the regulars sits a strikingly well‑dressed stranger, his confidence and aristocratic bearing setting him apart from the ragged crowd. He boasts of daring exploits and a fearless attitude toward death, his laughter echoing the tavern’s smoky walls. As the night deepens, the landlady’s tale of a vanished “Jim o’ the Green Coat” hangs heavy, hinting that even the most flamboyant heroes may soon find themselves caught in the alley’s hidden dangers.
