Description

In the bright heat of an August morning on Southport’s bustling promenade, two Cambridge undergraduates stroll through a sea of fashionable holiday‑makers. Their attention is captured by a striking young woman in black, whose poised carriage and sapphire eyes set her apart from the crowd of pretty seaside girls. When a mischievous terrier lunges at her tiny pommel pony, the taller of the pair intervenes, rescuing both pet and owner in a moment of unexpected chivalry.

The rescue sparks a shy exchange that leaves the girl both grateful and intrigued, while Raife Remington, heir to a baronetcy, finds his usual composure rattled by her quiet charm. As the two friends continue their seaside wanderings, they are drawn into a light‑handed mystery surrounding the enigmatic girl and the lively atmosphere of Southport’s summer season. The novel unfolds with witty dialogue, a sense of youthful ambition, and the promise of deeper connections forming against the backdrop of turn‑of‑the‑century England.
