Description

In the stark, icy reaches of early‑twentieth‑century Alaska, two young girls find themselves far from the comforts of home. Marian, staying with her father among reindeer herders, and Lucile, keeping house for her brother on a remote island, are thrust into a world where daily life is a struggle against unforgiving weather, endless wilderness, and the barest necessities. Their independence is forged by hunting walrus in skin‑boats, braving blizzards, and learning the rhythms of native communities that have long abandoned the conventions of the lower 48.

When a puzzling blue envelope appears amid their routine chores, it sets off a chain of mysteries that draw the girls into an unexpected adventure. A sudden storm drifts a supply schooner away, and a broken ice floe threatens to carry them out to sea. As they chase clues across frozen shores and lonely islands, Marian and Lucile must rely on wit, courage, and each other to unravel the secret hidden within the envelope—before the harsh Alaskan terrain claims them.
