Description

In a grand, slightly creaking mansion on the edge of Oakdale, the matriarch Aunt Selina spends her mornings wrapped in pain and peppered with sharp remarks. Her longtime servant Sally, warm‑hearted and quick with a smile, tends to toast, tea, and the endless barrage of Selina’s complaints about modern contraptions. Their banter reveals a household caught between old‑world habits and the faint buzz of change, while the house itself seems to sigh under the weight of generations.

When a telegram arrives inviting the spirited twelve‑year‑old Ruth Talmage to stay, the letter comes from the secretive “Blue Birds” club—a group of children who swear to follow the Golden Rule. Ruth, who has been longing to see her absent father, chooses to set aside her own wishes to bring a burst of life into Selina’s lonely days. As the train draws near, the promise of a blue‑bird nest and a week of unexpected companionship hints at both warmth and the subtle tensions that will test the household’s fragile routine.
