Description

The Starr children—Dot, Don, Meredith, Lavinia and little Lav—set off from Grand Forks on a rattling train bound for a remote lumber camp in western Ontario. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Starr, keep the buzz of sibling rivalry in check while promising a winter of fresh air and forest fun. As the landscape shifts from open prairie to towering pines, the family’s excitement grows, each child dreaming of new games among the trees.

In this gently paced tale, the youngsters discover the rhythm of camp life: chopping wood, spotting deer, and listening to the crackle of campfires. Their father shares stories of his own youthful trek through the same woods, sparking curiosity and a sense of belonging. With a mix of humor, sibling teamwork and the crisp Canadian wilderness as backdrop, listeners are invited to join the Starrs on their first steps into a world of outdoor adventure.
