A lavish world unfolds in the court of a far‑reaching empire, where king Ahasuerus hosts an extravagant banquet that dazzles princes and servants alike. The palace walls are draped in rich fabrics, marble floors gleam beneath golden and silver beds, and wine flows from vessels of many designs. Even the queen, Vashti, arranges a separate feast for the women of the royal household, adding a touch of feminine splendor to the celebration.
When the king, in a moment of wine‑filled merriment, commands Vashti to appear before the assembled guests, she refuses, sparking his fury and a council of wise advisers to deliberate. Their counsel leads to a bold decree that removes Vashti from her position and insists that every husband be honored in his own home. The king then orders a kingdom‑wide search for a young maiden whose beauty might win his favor and become the new queen.
