A choking fog hangs over a December night in London, turning the soot‑stained streets of Ramillies into a ghostly maze. Policeman John Whyley patrols the gloom, his lantern casting a weak red eye that barely pierces the black snow. As he steadies himself against the ancient iron arches, a sudden clatter reveals a group of strangers struggling through the drifts.
The strangers are clearly not ordinary thieves; one carries a limp figure, another eyes the dim lantern with a predator’s focus, and the third mutters about an “accident” that smells of more than mishap. Whyley’s curiosity pulls him into a tangled web of rumors about a vanished bag of diamonds that vanished from a wealthy client’s safe just days before. With each step deeper into the fog‑shrouded city, he must decide whether to follow the clues or stay within the safety of the streetlights.
