Description

Robin Gore is a seasoned backwoods hunter who, tired of the encroaching settlements, decides to carve out a life of absolute freedom in the untamed forest. He gathers his wife Molly, their two children, a strong‑willed nephew, and a stout Irish companion to trek deep into the timberland, where they raise three huts and a stockade they christen “Fort Enterprise.” The family’s crude homestead, perched beside a broad, silent lake, becomes a stark contrast to the civilized world they left behind.

From the first cold, dark morning, the group faces the relentless grip of winter and the urgent need to hunt for sustenance. Robin’s rugged independence clashes with Molly’s longing for familiar customs, while the youthful enthusiasm of Roy and the practical grit of Walter and Larry add both tension and camaraderie. Their isolated existence is further colored by nearby “neighbors” – a mysterious couple and a half‑breed trapper – hinting at uneasy alliances and the challenges of surviving on the frontier’s edge.
