Schlupps is a wandering craftsman's apprentice whose favorite exclamation—“Schlupps!”—has become his very name. He drifts from tavern to town, trading a handful of pennies for a place at a workshop, yet he prefers clever tricks to hard labor, slipping jokes into every task. His light‑hearted attitude brings him both welcome and the occasional rebuke from the masters who employ him.
When a stingy master commissions a simple bench, Schlupps discovers a hidden golden foot the master has been pilfering from a noble’s enchanted bed. Seeing an opportunity for mischief, he fashions a three‑legged bench, hoping the treasure will serve his own purposes. The tale blends rustic medieval life with witty commentary, offering a charming glimpse into a world where wit and woodwork collide.
