Description

At the rough‑hewn outpost of Lost Shoe Creek the air is thick with the smell of whiskey, the clang of a busted concertina, and the constant chatter of miners, prospectors, and drifters. When the earnest Parson MacLane arrives with his two loyal dogs, he finds a world of rowdy camaraderie and simmering quarrels, from a card‑game dispute that almost turns violent to the gruff bartender Ikey pouring drinks from a makeshift tent. Amid this chaotic hospitality, the sharp‑tongued Gumboot Annie runs the only saloon‑tent, bargaining even for a gospel meeting, while a lone figure in a crimson rose buttonhole watches the scene with quiet resolve.

The novel follows a spirited young woman who, drawn to the frontier’s promise, becomes entangled in the lives of the creek’s colorful inhabitants. As friendships blossom and loyalties are tested, she must navigate love, ambition, and the looming threat of danger that rides on the horizon. The first act sets a vivid picture of a community on the edge of civilization, hinting at the larger adventures that await.
