Description

A group of city dwellers and country folk converge on the craggy heights of Puijo, where a newly‑built tower offers a dizzying view and a place for a small, boisterous gathering. Matti and his wife host the occasion, while the charismatic yet nervous Aatami Pölckman, his flirtatious companion Aura, and a chorus of servants and local youths mingle over bottles of seltzer, lemonade, and the occasional sip of brandy. The dialogue crackles with witty observations about the stifling heat, the tower’s precarious sway, and the absurdities of wealth and status in late‑19th‑century Kuopio.

As the characters trade barbed compliments and tentative flirtations, a subtle tension rises between the polished city elite and the more rustic guests, hinting at deeper clashes over ambition, greed, and the changing social order. The play balances light‑hearted comedy with a satirical eye on pretension, promising further entanglements as the tower’s danger and the characters’ hidden motives begin to surface. Listeners can expect a lively, character‑driven portrait of a community on the brink of both laughter and unease.
